PROBLEM

Small businesses are the hub of our economic wheel in Eastern North Carolina. Statewide, small businesses make up 60% of new business growth and contribute close to $20 billion to our economy annually. Unfortunately, small businesses bear the burden of taxation and unnecessary paperwork. We need to support small business development and growth in Eastern North Carolina.

Tax rates that are highest in the region and among the highest in the nation create a disincentive for entrepreneurs to relocate or expand in North Carolina. In a misguided attempt to offset high state tax rates, lawmakers have opted for a steady stream of targeted tax breaks and corporate welfare handouts to a certain group of politically-connected companies. Such a practice creates an uneven playing field and establishes unfair competitive advantages for the privileged firms. (John W. Pope Civitas Institute)

As a small business owner for over 20 years, Norman has first-hand experience in the challenges and needs of small business. Norman will use his experience to help our small businesses and all businesses thrive so as to produce more jobs in Eastern North Carolina.

SOLUTIONS

  • Ease tax burden on small businesses
  • Stop corporate welfare and make the playing field level for all businesses
  • Reduce occupational licensing fees
  • Protect NC businesses from federal mandates, such as health care

THERE IS A BETTER WAY!
